Indications

NSAID (prodrug, relatively gentler on the stomach) for:

Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis — pain and inflammation

Dosage & administration

Adults: 1 g once daily at bedtime; may add 0.5–1 g in the morning for severe or persistent symptoms (maximum 2 g daily).

Elderly: not more than 1 g daily (500 mg may be enough).

Take with or after food. Lowest effective dose for the shortest time.
Not for children.

Contraindications

Allergy to nabumetone, aspirin or other NSAIDs
Active or recurrent peptic ulcer/bleeding
Severe heart, kidney or liver failure
Last 3 months of pregnancy

Side effects

Common: diarrhoea, indigestion, abdominal pain, constipation, wind, nausea, headache, dizziness, rash, tinnitus, swelling.

Rare but serious: stomach bleeding/ulcer, kidney injury, heart attack/stroke risk with long-term use, liver problems, severe allergy, sun sensitivity.

Precautions & warnings

Heart disease, hypertension, asthma, kidney/liver disease, elderly: caution.
Do not combine with other NSAIDs.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

Avoid in the first 6 months unless advised; contraindicated in the last 3 months. Avoid while breastfeeding.

Interactions

Other NSAIDs, aspirin, steroids (stomach bleeding)
Warfarin, antiplatelets, SSRIs (bleeding)
ACE inhibitors, ARBs, diuretics (kidney injury)
Lithium, methotrexate (toxicity)

Overdose

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, drowsiness. Seek medical care.
