Copnat-N Ointment

Very potent steroid + antibiotic + antifungal cream/ointment for short-term treatment of:

• Severe inflammatory skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis) where bacterial and/or Candida infection is present or suspected
• Infected intertrigo, infected lichen simplex and similar resistant dermatoses

Adults and children over 12 years: apply thinly once or twice daily to the affected area.

• Use for no more than 7 days (maximum 50 g per week); if longer treatment is needed, switch to a product without antibiotic and with a weaker steroid.
• Not for the face, armpits or groin unless advised; do not cover with occlusive dressings.
• Children under 12: not recommended.

• Untreated viral infections (herpes, chickenpox), tuberculosis of the skin, primary bacterial infections not suitable
• Acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis
• Large areas of broken skin or perforated eardrum (neomycin absorption — ear/kidney damage)
• Allergy to neomycin or other aminoglycosides
• Children under 2 years

Common: burning, itching, irritation.

Prolonged use: skin thinning, stretch marks, visible vessels, discolouration, steroid acne, neomycin contact allergy, resistant infection.

Systemic (extensive use): adrenal suppression, Cushingoid features; neomycin may cause hearing or kidney damage if absorbed.

• Do not use as a skin-lightening or cosmetic cream.
• Stop if redness and itching worsen (possible neomycin allergy).
• Keep away from eyes.

Avoid in pregnancy unless clearly needed (small areas, short time). Do not apply to the breast while breastfeeding.

• Ritonavir, itraconazole (systemic steroid effects with extensive use)
• Other ototoxic/nephrotoxic drugs if neomycin is absorbed

Prolonged excessive use: adrenal suppression and steroid effects; stop gradually under medical advice.

Store below 25–30°C.
