Flurium 5 mg Tablet

Calcium-entry blocker with antihistamine action for:

• Prevention of migraine (classic and common) when other preventives are unsuitable
• Vertigo (dizziness) of vestibular origin, including Ménière's disease

Adults under 65: 10 mg once daily at night.

Adults 65 and over: 5 mg once daily at night.

• Migraine: review after 2 months; if helpful, continue but give regular drug-free breaks (e.g. 2 drug-free days per week, or stop after 6 months and restart only if migraine returns).
• Vertigo: stop once symptoms are controlled; usually not more than 2 months.
• Maintenance may be lowered to 10 mg on 5 days a week.
• Children (specialist): 5 mg at night (over 40 kg 10 mg).

• Depression or history of depression
• Parkinson's disease or other extrapyramidal (movement) disorders
• Allergy to flunarizine or cinnarizine

Common: drowsiness, tiredness, weight gain / increased appetite, nausea, heartburn.

Less common: low mood, insomnia, anxiety, muscle aches, dry mouth, menstrual changes, galactorrhoea.

Rare but serious (mainly elderly / long-term use): depression, parkinsonism and other movement disorders (tremor, stiffness, slowness), restlessness.

• Stop and seek advice if low mood, tremor, stiffness or slowness develop.
• May cause drowsiness — avoid driving if affected; avoid alcohol.
• Elderly: lower dose; higher risk of movement disorders.
• Do not take continuously for long periods without review.

Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding (insufficient data).

• Alcohol, sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines (more drowsiness)
• Antipsychotics, metoclopramide (more movement disorders)
• Phenytoin, carbamazepine (reduce flunarizine levels)

Sedation, agitation, fast heartbeat. Supportive care.

Store below 30°C, protected from light.
