Hybrox 6 mg/ml Paediatric Drops

Mucolytic (expectorant) for:

• Chest conditions with thick, sticky mucus: acute and chronic bronchitis, COPD, bronchiectasis
• Productive cough with difficulty bringing up phlegm
• Lozenges: sore throat pain (local anaesthetic effect)

Adults and children over 12 years: 30 mg three times daily for 2–3 days, then 30 mg twice daily (or 60 mg twice daily if needed); SR capsule 75 mg once daily.

Children 6–12 years: 15 mg two to three times daily.

Children 2–5 years: 7.5 mg three times daily.

Children under 2 years: 7.5 mg twice daily, only if prescribed.

• Take after meals with plenty of fluids.
• See a doctor if symptoms last more than 4–5 days or worsen.

• Allergy to ambroxol or bromhexine
• Children under 2 years without medical advice

Common: nausea, taste changes, numbness of mouth/throat.

Less common: stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhoea, dry mouth, rash.

Rare but serious: severe allergic reactions and severe skin reactions (SJS/TEN, AGEP) — stop at the first sign of rash or blisters.

• Stop and seek help if a rash or mouth/skin blisters appear.
• Use with caution in peptic ulcer, severe kidney or liver disease, and in people who cannot cough up mucus well (risk of mucus build-up).
• Do not combine with cough suppressants (e.g. dextromethorphan) without advice.

Avoid in the first trimester; use later in pregnancy only if advised. Passes into breast milk — not recommended while breastfeeding.

• Cough suppressants (block clearance of loosened mucus)
• Antibiotics (amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin) — ambroxol may increase their lung concentrations (not harmful)

Restlessness, stomach upset, diarrhoea. Treat symptoms.

Store below 30°C, protected from light.
