Neurotin 600 mg Tablet

Antiepileptic and nerve-pain medicine for:

• Peripheral neuropathic pain (diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia)
• Focal (partial) seizures, alone or as add-on

Neuropathic pain (adults): day 1: 300 mg once, day 2: 300 mg twice, day 3: 300 mg three times; then increase by 300 mg/day every 2–7 days as needed; usual 900–3,600 mg/day in 3 divided doses (maximum 3,600 mg).

Epilepsy: same titration; usual 900–3,600 mg/day in 3 doses (not more than 12 hours between doses).

Children 6–12 years (epilepsy, specialist): 25–35 mg/kg/day in 3 doses.

Kidney impairment: reduce dose by creatinine clearance.

• Do not stop suddenly — reduce over at least 1 week.

• Allergy to gabapentin

Very common: drowsiness, dizziness, unsteadiness, tiredness, viral infections.

Common: weight gain, swelling of legs, blurred vision, dry mouth, nausea, mood changes, memory problems, tremor.

Rare but serious: breathing depression (with opioids or in lung disease), suicidal thoughts, severe allergic reactions (DRESS), pancreatitis, misuse/dependence.

• Do not drive until you know how it affects you; avoid alcohol.
• Elderly, lung disease, kidney impairment: lower doses.
• History of drug misuse: monitor.
• Report mood changes.

Use in pregnancy only if benefit outweighs risk; specialist advice for epilepsy. Passes into milk — use with caution while breastfeeding (watch the baby for sleepiness).

• Opioids (morphine, tramadol), benzodiazepines, alcohol (sedation, breathing depression)
• Antacids with aluminium/magnesium (take gabapentin at least 2 hours after)

Drowsiness, double vision, slurred speech, unsteadiness, diarrhoea; breathing depression with other sedatives. Supportive care; haemodialysis removes it.

Store below 30°C.
