Olmesta 20 mg Tablet

Angiotensin-II receptor blocker (ARB) for:

• High blood pressure in adults and children 6 years and over

Adults: 10 mg once daily; may be increased to 20 mg, then to 40 mg once daily (maximum).

Children 6–18 years: 20–35 kg: 10 mg once daily (max 20 mg); 35 kg and over: 10 mg (max 40 mg).

• Take at the same time each day, with or without food.
• Full effect in about 2–8 weeks.
• Elderly and moderate kidney impairment: maximum 20 mg daily.

• Pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimesters; avoid throughout)
• Biliary obstruction
• Use with aliskiren in diabetes or kidney impairment
• Allergy to olmesartan

Common: dizziness, headache, tiredness, nasopharyngitis, back pain, stomach upset.

Less common: low blood pressure, raised potassium, raised creatinine, rash.

Rare but serious: sprue-like enteropathy (severe chronic diarrhoea and weight loss, may appear months–years later), angioedema, kidney failure.

• Check kidney function and potassium periodically.
• Report severe ongoing diarrhoea with weight loss.
• Avoid dehydration; caution with renal artery stenosis.

Contraindicated in pregnancy — can harm the baby's kidneys and cause death. Switch before planned pregnancy. Not recommended while breastfeeding.

• Potassium supplements, spironolactone, salt substitutes (high potassium)
• NSAIDs (reduced effect, kidney risk)
• Lithium (toxicity)
• ACE inhibitors, aliskiren (avoid combinations)
• Colesevelam (take olmesartan 4 hours before)

Low blood pressure, fast or slow heartbeat. Lie down with legs raised; seek medical care.

Store below 30°C.
