Purifen 200 Tablet

NSAID (the active S-form of ibuprofen) for:

• Pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal disorders
• Period pain, dental pain, headache and other mild-to-moderate pain
• Fever (paediatric suspension)

Adults: 200–400 mg two to three times daily; maximum 1,200 mg daily (half the equivalent ibuprofen dose).

• Period pain: 200–300 mg up to three times daily.

Children (suspension, where approved, over 1 year): about 5–7 mg/kg per dose, three times daily, as directed.

• Take with or after food. Lowest effective dose for the shortest time.
• Elderly, mild–moderate kidney/liver impairment: start low.

• Allergy to dexibuprofen, ibuprofen, aspirin or other NSAIDs
• Active or past recurrent peptic ulcer/bleeding
• Severe heart, kidney or liver failure
• Last 3 months of pregnancy

Common: indigestion, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, heartburn, dizziness, headache.

Less common: rash, fluid retention, raised blood pressure.

Rare but serious: stomach bleeding/ulcer, kidney injury, heart attack/stroke (long-term high dose), severe allergy, bronchospasm, severe skin reactions.

• Heart disease, hypertension, asthma, kidney disease, elderly: caution.
• Do not combine with other NSAIDs.
• Dehydrated children: risk of kidney injury.

Avoid in the first 6 months unless advised; contraindicated in the last 3 months. Short-term use while breastfeeding is generally acceptable (as for ibuprofen).

• Other NSAIDs, aspirin, steroids (stomach bleeding)
• Warfarin, antiplatelets, SSRIs (bleeding)
• ACE inhibitors, ARBs, diuretics (kidney injury, less effect)
• Lithium, methotrexate (toxicity)

Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, drowsiness; at high doses seizures, kidney failure. Seek medical care.
