Tiramin 10 mg Tablet

Antihistamine for:

• Allergic rhinitis (hay fever, dust allergy): sneezing, runny or itchy nose, itchy watery eyes
• Urticaria (hives) and itching from allergies
• Allergic skin conditions, insect-bite reactions

Adults and children 12 years and over: 10 mg once daily (or 5 mg twice daily).

Children 6–11 years: 5 mg twice daily (or 10 mg once daily).

Children 2–5 years: 2.5 mg (2.5 ml syrup 5 mg/5 ml) twice daily.

Kidney impairment: halve the dose (5 mg daily); severe impairment — avoid or as directed.

• Can be taken with or without food; evening dosing helps if it makes you sleepy.

• Allergy to cetirizine, levocetirizine or hydroxyzine
• Severe kidney failure (creatinine clearance below 10 ml/min)

Common: drowsiness, tiredness, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, sore throat.

Less common: stomach pain, diarrhoea, nausea, restlessness (children).

Rare: allergic reactions, fast heartbeat, liver changes, difficulty passing urine, itching after stopping long-term use.

• May cause drowsiness — take care when driving; avoid alcohol and sedatives.
• Use with caution in epilepsy and urinary retention (e.g. enlarged prostate).
• Stop 3 days before allergy skin tests.

Considered one of the safer antihistamines in pregnancy when needed. Passes into breast milk; occasional use is generally acceptable — watch the baby for drowsiness.

• Alcohol, sedatives, sleeping tablets (more drowsiness)
• Theophylline at high doses (slightly lowers cetirizine clearance)

Drowsiness (adults), restlessness and irritability (children), fast heartbeat, dry mouth, urinary retention. Seek medical care.
