Tomycin Eye Drops

Steroid + antibiotic eye drops/ointment for:

• Inflammatory eye conditions where bacterial infection is present or likely (e.g. blepharitis, conjunctivitis with inflammation)
• Inflammation and infection prevention after eye surgery (e.g. cataract surgery)

Eye drops (tobramycin 0.3% + dexamethasone 0.1%), adults and children over 2 years: 1–2 drops every 4–6 hours; for the first 24–48 hours may increase to every 2 hours, then reduce as it improves.

Eye ointment: apply a 1–1.5 cm strip 3–4 times daily (or at night with drops in the day).

• Shake drops well. Usually not more than 7–14 days; do not stop suddenly after long use — taper.
• Do not touch the tip to the eye.

• Viral eye infections (herpes simplex keratitis, chickenpox), fungal or tuberculous eye infections
• Untreated purulent eye infection
• Allergy to tobramycin, aminoglycosides or dexamethasone

Common: stinging, itching, eye discomfort, blurred vision (ointment).

With prolonged use (steroid): raised eye pressure (glaucoma), cataract, delayed healing, secondary fungal or viral infection, thinning of the cornea.

Rare: allergic reactions.

• Use longer than 10 days only with eye-pressure monitoring by an eye doctor.
• A red, painful eye with reduced vision needs examination before steroid drops.
• Remove contact lenses during treatment.
• Do not share.

Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only if needed, for short periods.

• Other eye drops: wait 5 minutes between them
• Ritonavir/cobicistat (systemic steroid effects possible with prolonged use)

Eye overdose: rinse with water. Not expected to cause systemic problems.

Store below 25–30°C. Discard 4 weeks after opening.
