Tosma 1 mg/5 ml Syrup

Antihistamine and mast-cell stabiliser for:

• Prevention of asthma attacks (especially allergic asthma in children) — add-on, not for acute attacks
• Allergic rhinitis, allergic skin reactions, chronic urticaria
• Eye drops: allergic conjunctivitis (itchy, red, watery eyes)

Adults and children over 3 years: 1 mg twice daily with morning and evening meals (start with 1 mg at night for the first days to reduce drowsiness); up to 2 mg twice daily.

Children 6 months–3 years: 0.05 mg/kg twice daily (e.g. 0.5 mg twice daily), as prescribed.

Eye drops: 1 drop in each affected eye twice daily.

• Benefit in asthma builds up over several weeks; continue for at least 2–3 months.
• Do not stop other asthma medicines suddenly.

• Allergy to ketotifen
• Epilepsy or history of seizures (oral form, use with care)

Common: drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, increased appetite and weight gain.

Less common: irritability, sleep problems, nervousness (especially children), headache.

Rare: liver problems, seizures, severe skin reactions.

Eye drops: stinging, burning, dry eye.

• Drowsiness — care when driving; avoid alcohol.
• Not for treating an acute asthma attack.
• Diabetic patients: some syrups contain sugar.

Avoid in pregnancy unless clearly needed. Passes into breast milk — not recommended while breastfeeding.

• Sedatives, antihistamines, alcohol (more drowsiness)
• Oral diabetes medicines (rare reversible fall in platelets reported)

Drowsiness, confusion, fast heartbeat, low blood pressure; seizures, especially in children. Seek medical care.

Store below 30°C. Eye drops: discard 4 weeks after opening.
