Vanprox 200 mg Capsule

Oral third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic for:

• Throat and tonsil infections, sinusitis, middle-ear infections
• Bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia
• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
• Skin and soft-tissue infections
• Uncomplicated gonorrhoea
• Typhoid fever (where sensitive)

Adults: 100–200 mg twice daily for 5–14 days, depending on infection (UTI 100 mg twice daily; pneumonia 200 mg twice daily). Gonorrhoea: 200 mg single dose.

Children (over 2 months): 5 mg/kg twice daily (maximum 200 mg per dose), as prescribed.

• Take tablets with food for better absorption; the suspension can be taken with or without food.
• Kidney impairment (creatinine clearance below 30 ml/min): give every 24 hours.

• Allergy to cefpodoxime or other cephalosporins
• History of severe allergy to penicillins

Common: diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, headache.

Less common: rash, itching, vaginal thrush, dizziness.

Rare: severe allergy, C. difficile colitis, blood disorders, liver or kidney changes, severe skin reactions.

• Tell your doctor about penicillin allergy.
• Stop and seek advice for severe diarrhoea.
• Complete the full course.

Considered acceptable in pregnancy when needed. Passes into breast milk in small amounts — usually compatible.

• Antacids, H2-blockers and PPIs (reduce absorption — take cefpodoxime 2 hours apart from antacids)
• Probenecid (raises levels)
• Warfarin (bleeding risk)

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea. Treat symptoms.

Store below 30°C. Reconstituted suspension: refrigerate and use within 14 days.
